An insight from our Director, Rachel
Inspirational images are everywhere, from editorials to social media; we are flooded with beautiful imagery we long for in our own homes, but where to start can feel overwhelming and confusing, and sometimes you need a sounding board to help untangle those ideas.
When I worked as a consultant focused solely on colour, I asked my clients a series of questions to help them understand their preferences and connect with who they are, which in turn inspired me to create a palette that was right for them. Which way does my room face? How much natural light do I get? What colours do I actually like? These are all good starting points, but separating fact from feeling goes deeper and helps you understand your space better.
What do you use the room for? How do you want or need to feel when using the room? Remember that colour and light affect our body and mind in similar ways.

When the sun rises, we wake up, get up, and have energy. Lighter tones have the same effect. A kitchen, for example, is a room where we typically spend a lot of time; how do we want to feel for most of the day - energised or sleepy? Most would say they need to feel some level of creativity and be organised and focused, so choosing a colour that makes you feel this way is a good starting point.
Then, when the sun goes down, we begin to relax, unwind, and rest. Explore darker tones and their grounding effect, which can work beautifully in rooms where you need to sleep or switch off. A cohesive home is important, and balancing a colour palette is a skill. Your home should be interesting; you want it to look beautiful, but ultimately, for it to feel like home, it needs to represent you.
